We’re Not Playing

On January 20th, 2017 (Inauguration Day), I had the pleasure of participating in Little Black Dress INK’s We’re Not Playing initiative at The Samuel French Bookshop, which was organized by the amazing and talented Allie Costa, Kitty Lindsay, and Laura Steinroeder. It was a reading of socially-conscious and politically-inspired plays.

We, along with theatres and theatre practitioners across the country, staged short plays to raise consciousness about the issues at stake over the next four years – including (but not limited to) our civil liberties, our health, and the health of our planet – as well as do our best to inspire action in the only way we know how: through storytelling.

I was a part of two beautiful spoken word poems: summer storms, 2016: they were dancing and i had a dream but now i’m woke. Both written by the incredible Jaisey Bates, they were directed by the wonderful Kitty Lindsay and featured (alongside me) these brilliant actresses: Christy Bell, Nacha Hojas and Lindsay Zana.

Here’s a link to see the piece, please check it out!

Weeping. From the bottom of my heart, in every language: thank you.
